Adventures of Sailing

I found out the hard way last Saturday that I was not meant to be a sailor. The seasickness that I had so nervously dreaded hit me hard!

The views of Marina del Ray, Venice and Santa Monica from the ocean were beautiful. The dolphins and seals playing alongside the boat added excitement and ended up being my favorite part. So although I spent most of the time sitting on top of the small boat staring out into the distance as to avoid seeing the rocking motion of the boat, I would say sailing was overall a success. Next time (if I ever feel up for the challenge) I will load up on dramamine and ginger (secret of the sea, apparently ginger helps motion sickness). The picture below is of me pretending that I was at the helm the whole time...I think it looks pretty convincing :)

Dear LA, I love you.

I have been MIA for over 2 months now, but my new goal is to update this blog!

From Orange County to Downtown LA, I've made the move! I've been here a day, but already am in love with my building, the hustle and bustle of the busy downtown, and walking everywhere.

I even had my first experience with Big Lots yesterday. I knew I was at "home" when a women walked up to me and started exclaiming in español about the great prices on Crocks. Luckily, my time in Spain had prepared me for this, but I think my less than enthusiastic response of "sí, muy bueno" with forced excitement written on my face about her crock flip-flops made her give me a little glare. I am sure she was thinking that I was missing out on this great deal. But seriously! Crocks. A) They are only OK for little children at lakes and beaches. B) NOT OK for anyone over 7 to wear. C) If I show up at your door in crocks from Big Lots, please get me help. Thank you.

But anyway, back to my new home. I love it! Have I mentioned that? My apartment has little furniture and at it's current state is a disaster, but it will get there. Next week my title will be student once again and although the thought of text books and assignments honestly makes me a little queasy, I couldn't be more excited for this next stage in my life :)

Dear downtown LA, here is the start to a great relationship between me and you.
